Along the way, I have found compassionate hearts where I least expected them, and I have felt joy in the healing warmth of supportive friends.

Old, distant friends, whose emails have felt like a lifeline at moments when it felt impossible to talk to anyone.

New friends who have walked boldly into my life, unphased by the uncertainty of my journey through cancer.

Dear friends. Friends who have continued to call, to email, to send cards, to offer support, despite the overwhelm that made it so hard for me to respond.

Clients, students, acquaintances who have met me in the grocery store and wrapped me in hugs, sent cards, read this silly blog.

Family, who listened.

Cancer threatens to harden me for the battle and the uncertain future.

You, all of you, teach me to soften the armour of my heart and reach out.

I am eternally grateful.
